We were at the Newark International Antiques & Collectors Fair in December. Reputed to be the largest of its kind in Europe, it housed around 2500 stands with sellers from all around the region. There were at least 4 different types of stalls though - ranging from 1) the çarboot style (those in the open), 2) those with tents, 3) those in some sort of warehouses (no heating) and 4) those in nice buildings with heating and posh lighting. Well, needless to say, the prices were directly proportionate to the temperature under which one viewed the items! Without further ado, we would like to share photos of some of the stuff we encountered...
Overall, this antiques fair was really an eye-opener for us. It's massive and featured a wide variety of things from the very cheap to the extremely expensive. Don''t be surprised to chance upon a few exquisite items from the road side or tents. Simple surroundings often bring about pleasant surprises! However, as we went on the 2nd day of this 2 day event (the first was mostly for traders and entry fee was 20GBP - 5GBP on the 2nd day) vendors started to pack up as early as 12.30pm! (the fair was scheduled to end at 4pm). We reckoned that it was largely due to the lack of customers (it was winter and very cold and windy). Therefore, it might be a better idea to go in the summer. This fair happens every other month anyway. Our next stop will be the Antique and Collectors fair at Edinburgh's Meadowbank Stadium organised by Scotfairs. May our itineraries cross!
